The newly built council secretariat at Isiokpo in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of River State has been set ablaze by suspected political thugs. The arson took place hours after the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers at the 23 local government secretariats in the state. A video shared online showed a section of the secretariat’s administrative building on fire. Police authorities have not commented on the incident and the extent of damage is still unclear.
