POST ELECTION BRIEFING: DIG Incharge of Edo Election, Frank Mba Commends Violence Free Exercise

The Nigeria Police Force has said it arrested some persons for election crimes which involved illegal possession of firearms, BVAS Machines and voter cards during last Saturday’s off-cycle governorship election in Edo State.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Edo election, Frank Mba disclosed this during his post election briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Benin city on Monday.

The Police DIG commended citizens of the State for their peaceful conduct during the voting exercise in which the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpevholo was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

According to DIG Mba, despite the calmness, some persons who are presently undergoing interrogation at the Edo State Police Command headquarters were arrested for various electoral crimes including alleged possession of firearms, BVAS machines and voter cards.

DIG Frank Mba also commended the officers and men of the Nigeria Police for exercising utmost professionalism during the voting exercise which he said guaranteed the safety of the electorate, personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and government facilities.

He however assured law abiding citizens of Edo State state of continued protection as the Police continues to push out its confidence building strategies.
