Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno has told Local Government chairmen in the state that local government autonomy does not mean they should run as separate entities.
Governor Eno said this in Uyo, the state capital at the inauguration of the newly elected local council officials.
At their swearing in, Governor Eno made it clear to them that their election was a call to duty and that autonomy does not mean they are autonomous.
Governor Eno charged the only council chairman elected on the platform of the APC to collaborate with his administration to better the lot of the people.
The new chairmen assured of living up to expectation.
Out of the 31 chairmanship positions, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, won 30 while the All Progressives Congress, APC, won one.
Five of the 31 chairmen are women and 26 of the 31 vice chairmen are also women.
