Famers in Nigeria have been advised to invest more on food crops to ensure availability and food security to meet high demand amidst price hike of food items across the country.
Executive secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Professor Garba Hamidu gave the advice during a conference which held in Ibadan on Thursday to promote the cultivation of okra as a food crop.
The high cost and the challenge of food availability across Nigeria have been serious issues faced by the people, the gathering of agricultural experts therefore is to find ways on how to evaluate the development with a view to finding ways on how to make food crops more available for mass consumption.
Participants in their separate remarks advised Nigerian Famers to build a more robust subsistence structure to meet the growing food needs of citizens with another call for farmers to grow okra in abundance .
The Global round table conference is geared towards promoting okra and making all Nigerians have access to quality food.
