65 medical workers killed in Lebanon airstrikes since September 17 – UN Office

65 medical workers have reportedly been killed and 40 others injured since September 17, according to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The alarming data was shared during a briefing, with Ian Clarke, Deputy Incident Manager for the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the statement, Clarke reported that 16 attacks have targeted healthcare centers across the country, forcing the closure of 96 primary care centers and facilities in southern Lebanon.

He also pointed out that five hospitals had ceased operations due to extensive infrastructure damage, while four others had been partially evacuated, leading to patient transfers.

“Since 17 September, 16 attacks on health care had been recorded, leaving behind 65 deaths and 40 injuries among health staff,” the office said in a statement on Tuesday,” the statement said.

Since October 1, Israel has been conducting a ground operation against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon, alongside continued airstrikes.

Despite heavy losses, Hezbollah has resisted by fighting on the ground and launching rockets across the border.

Israel has stated that its main goal is to enable the return of 60,000 residents who fled the northern region due to ongoing shelling.
