Zamfara State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aisha M Z Anka has announced that the State has marked one year without incidence of polio virus.
She disclosed this at a one-day town hall meeting on the upcoming Integration Measles Vaccination Campaign in Gusau, saying that the success was as a result of all stakeholders’ collaborative efforts in routine immunisation.
Anka thanked WHO, UNICEF, GAVI and other NGOs for their support, stating that without them, the state would have been unable to accomplish that.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Bashir Surajo Gusau, further stated that the State government would do all it could to eradicate polio and measles to 60 percent by the end of 2025.
Anka urged stakeholders to work together to fulfil Governor Dauda Lawal’s Health Sector Agenda.
The State’s Coordinator of World Health Organization, WHO, Dr Raji, pledged the WHO’s support and urged the state to ensure all the targeted population was reached, especially those in underserved areas who are most vulnerable.
