Zamfara Govt Donates N20 million To Boat Mishap Victims

Zamfara State Government has donated N20 million to victims of the boat mishap at Bakin Kasuwa River at Ubandawaki Ward of Gummi Local Government Area of the State.

The Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan, (rtd) , has also cleared the air on the number of those affrcted saying 20 persons were on board the boat .

The media had reported that more than forty passengers were in the boat that capsized on Saturday, September 14.

The Zamfara Monarch while hosting the State Deputy Governor, Mallam Mani Mallam Mummuni, who was in the town to condole the people over the unpleasant incident, explained that ten people lost their lives while seven survived, and three are still missing.

The Deputy Governor announced that he had handed over N20million to an elder Stateman, Salihu Mai Bubu to distribute to the families of the victims to alleviate their hardship.

He assured residents that the administration would do everything possible to reduce the hardship and the incidents of boat mishaps in the State, as the government will look into the request of the people to procure modern boats.

Chairman of Gummi Local Government, Aminu Falale appealed to the State Governor to Sensitize, educate and train the boat captains to avoid excessive speed and loading, which he believes has contributed to boat mishap in the area.
