Logistics Issues, Voter Apathy Mar Enugu LG Elections

Newnaija 4 months ago 0 1

The people of Enugu State went to the polls on Saturday to elect officials for Local Government administration.

AIT Correspondent monitoring the election reports that while the process was generally peaceful, voter apathy and logistical issues, including the late arrival of election materials, significantly affected the exercise.

The situation was however different at Udi/Agbudu ward in Udi LGA where voting commenced as early as 8:30 am, with enthusiastic voters present.

However at Akwuke Ward, Garriki, in Enugu South Council Area, normal market activities went on, with little interest shown in the election.

For Ward 003 in Udi/Agbudu, which has a voting strength of 1,239, only 30 voters had cast their ballots by midday, reflecting the general apathy observed in many other polling units visited.

Both the willing voters and those that didn’t vote had the same motivation.

Despite the logistical challenges, the overall positive outcome of the election was its peaceful nature.

Police and other security agencies were visible on the roads and at various polling centres, ensuring order and preventing any possible crisis.
