Kebbi Assembly Approves Law Establishing Electricity Regulatory Commission

Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 Electricity Bill into Law, establishing the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The Assembly ratified the Bill at its sitting Thursday presided over by the Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru.

The Chairman, House Committee on Rural and Community Development,
Faruq Abubakar Mai-Sudan, presented report to the Legislature on the matter, leading to the 3rd reading and passage of the Bill into Law.

The Commission is empowered to regulate electricity in the state in the areas of generation, transmission, system operation, distribution and supply.

Mandate of the state Commission include, promoting access to electricity in the state through increased private sector investment, partnership in Grid, mini-Grid and other off grid options using renewable and non renewable sources of power.

The chairman remarked that issues of electricity have continued to be of concern to all Nigerians.

It is hoped that moribund electricity equipment and decayed tools on ground, would be reactivated and come on stream, towards ensuring accessible and uninterrupted power supply to the people of Kebbi State.
