Newnaija A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has refused an a application by a faction of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the State, seeking an order to stop the Local Government Area Council elections scheduled for October 26th, 2024.
The plaintiffs in the suit are, the New Nigeria People’s Party and Engr. Muhammad Babayo, while the defendants are listed as INEC, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Inspector General of Police and Director General, Department of State Services.
According to Court documents, the plaintiffs are seeking the Court to grant an order stopping the election pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.
Also, they want the Court to direct both sides of the parties to maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

Similarly, the plaintiffs urged the Court to grant such further orders as it deems fit to make in the circumstances of the case.
However, the presiding judge, Justice Simon Amobeda in a ruling on Wednesday, refused the prayers of the plaintiff, instead directed that the respondents should urgently be put on Notice to show cause why these prayers should not be granted.
Justice Amobeda ordered that the hearing of the suit is abridged to 72 hours from the service of the Order of the Court and the processes, and that the time of filing of all other subsequent processes by the parties is equally abridged to 48 hours from the service of the same.
The case was later adjourned to October 16th, 2024.
