This initiative which will take effect in early 2025, aims to provide a cleaner and more affordable energy solution for residents in Ogoja, Ikom, and Calabar, addressing both energy shortages and environmental concerns.
The Federal Government is taking significant strides toward cleaner energy, with the planned establishment of Compressed Natural Gas CNG stations in Ogoja, Ikom, and Calabar.
The initiative is part of the National Gas Expansion Program, seeking to provide sustainable energy solutions in Cross River State.
During an assessment tour of the selected areas, Chairman of the National Gas Expansion Program, Mohammed Ibrahim, outlined the project’s dual impact: alleviating persistent energy shortages in Ikom and Ogoja, while stimulating local economic growth.

State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Eka Williams, highlighted the importance of the visit, emphasizing the need to address specific energy challenges, and ensure that the gas project delivers tangible benefits to residents.
Adi Mark, Consultant on State Power, Renewable Energy, Oil, and Gas, stressed the urgency of the transition to cleaner energy, noting that the global move towards renewables was gaining momentum.
Community members in the pilot areas have expressed optimism, describing the initiative as a transformative development for their local economies and quality of life.
The Federal Government remains confident that the CNG initiative will not only address immediate energy needs but will also serve as a catalyst for a cleaner, more sustainable future in Cross River State.
