Newnaija The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) has trained twenty- eight (28), health workers in Zamfara State on cancer prevention and treatment
State Commissioner For Health, Dr Aisha Anka while speaking at the three-day capacity training for health workers, praised the Institute for its cancer fighting efforts.
The Commissioner, represented by the Director of Public Health in the ministry, Dr Yusuf Haske, described the training as laudable and focused on the fight against cancer.
She said her ministry will continue to partner with the cancer research institute on intervention opportunities on all other cancers and the state government is providing equipment and skilled manpower to ensure that the training is stepped down to the grassroots.
The state’s Team Lead of the programme, Dr Ibrahim Jibril Hano, said that the training is for 28 frontline health workers in Primary Healthcare Centres and the focus is on basic cancer screening techniques.
World Health Organisation (WHO) coordinator in Zamfara state, Mukhtar Raji, said the state must be ready for more intervention opportunities for cancer prevention, promising further WHO support forprevention and treatment.
The three-day workshop has as its Theme: “Enhancing Skills in Urinary Schistosomiasis and Prompt Referral of Suspected Bladder Cancer”.
