Benue State Moves Closer To Open Defecation Free Status

The Benue State Government has expressed confidence that it will meet its target of an open defecation free State by 2025 as 11 out of its 23 councils have attained the status.

State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ogwu Udoh said this in Otukpo during activities to mark the Open Defecation Free status of 2 local governments in the state.
The commissioner said the achievement is a testimony to the collective resolve and commitment of the people to enhance the quality of in Benue state.

United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF Nigeria representative Jane Bevan said its organisations will continue to support other local councils to attain the Open defecation free status.
An estimated 48 million Nigerians still practice open defecation the highest number in Sub-Saharan Africa.
