The people of Akwa Ibom went to the polls today to elect local government officials.

Reports across the state indicate a very peaceful exercise but turnout was a mix bag as some areas recorded impressive numbers while voter apathy was recorded in others.

The State Independent Electoral Commission, AKSIEC, distributed materials early but they got to some polling units behind the 8am official polls opening time.

Some voters, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio gave good impression about the exercise.

31 chairmanship positions and 368 councilorship seats are up for grabs at the polls.
