Nigeria’s participation in the 2024 Africa Senior Scrabble Championship is hanging in the balance due to lack of funds.
With just 20 days to go until the championship kicks off in Kigali, Rwanda on October 23, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation is desperately appealing to the Federal Ministry of Sports Development for financial support.
It is ironic that Nigeria, the reigning champion with 13 titles under their belt, is facing this challenge.
The team has consistently dominated the tournament, with University of Lagos graduate Enoch Nwali holding the individual title and the Nigerian contingent claiming the team title in Lusaka, Zambia two years ago.
The Nigeria Scrabble Federation has been working tirelessly to promote Scrabble in the country, hosting successful events like the 2024 Scrabble Festival and the Governor Douye Diri National Championships.
However, the team’s participation in the upcoming championship may be hindered due to lack of funds.
