The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Tuesday says recovery efforts are almost complete following a partial grid disturbance on Monday, October 14, 2024.

According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the disturbance occurred at approximately 6:48 pm but swift action ensured minimal disruption.

The TCN said Azura Power Station provided the necessary blackstart to initiate recovery, which reached advanced stages by 10:24 am on Tuesday.

It added that Bulk power availability has been restored to 90% of substations nationwide to ensure that most areas across the country have access to electricity.

Additionally, power supply has been restored to major distribution load centers, including Abuja. This restoration effort prioritizes critical infrastructure and essential services.

Furthermore, areas in the South Southern region, such as Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132kV transmission substations, continued to receive power from the Ibom Gas generating station, which remained operational throughout the disturbance.

TCN said it will conduct an investigation into the cause of the incident upon full restoration of the grid.

Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed for the sixth time in 2024 on Monday plunging the country into darkness.
